| | | From the opening organ solo, a piece by Brahms played by Chris Hughes, to the closing sound of the Cathedral bells being rung in rounds, this album is a fine example of a traditional Anglican Christmas. I expect that most readers could predict the carols that are included without me naming any of them but then the album's subtitle is “A thousand voices sing the finest Christmas music in Lincoln Cathedral” and that is just what we get; fine hymns sung with gusto. Having such a large congregation certainly makes an impressive sound and Cantoris Brass add some nice embellishments. The tempo is, for me, too slow in places but this does ensure safety and when the Cathedral Choir soar above the melody with some beautiful descants this becomes a joy to the ear. Rather than listening at my hi-fi your reviewer took this on a road test and played it on the car stereo. I could not stop myself from joining in – it is that sort of album. Merry Christmas!
