After five years away from the genre that first brought Newsboys to the global scene, GO is a welcome return to the world of classic pop-rock, inspired by the band’s recent international travels.
Right now the band find themselves at the height of their influence and recognition around the world. Having recently performed shows in Europe, Morocco, and Tiberius, Israel, as well as in their adopted North American home, Newsboys mixed it up with thousands of people from various cultures and religious backgrounds. This interaction prompted them to record an album that echoed the call of the Great Commission.
“The Israeli festival had a large impact on us,” comments newsboys’ frontman Peter Furler. “All the different nationalities and religious beliefs coming together, and for that moment co-existing peacefully, was a moment I will never forget.”
Such purpose is reflected on songs like the title track: “GO...From the top of the world/To the bottom rung/‘til the work is done/I wanna send you/GO.../From the break of the dawn/To the age’s end/Somebody’s needing a friend/I wanna send you.” Musically, the project makes a nod back to their popular, catchy pop-rock sound while moving forward creatively and sonically.
With five gold albums, sales exceeding six million units, more than 20 No.1 radio hits, and a mantle of Dove Awards as well as Grammy nominations, Newsboys have achieved phenomenal success over their two decades together. Known for their amazing live performances and their groundbreaking tours, the band continues to sell out festivals and concerts worldwide, satisfying diehard fans and winning new ones in the process.
